Why won't my BYD start when the main battery is charged?

Almost always it is the 12V battery. The car needs it to power the computers and close the relays that connect the drive battery. When it is flat, nothing wakes up. We power the 12V system, bring the car to life and test it.

Can you jump-start a BYD?

Yes, the 12V system can be boosted safely with the right equipment and connection points. We never touch the high-voltage side. Once the car is awake it recharges its own 12V battery, and we check whether that battery is still healthy enough to keep.

Is the BYD 12V battery lithium or lead-acid?

It depends on the model and year. Many newer cars such as the Atto 3, Seal and Han use a lithium 12V battery, while some others use lead-acid. They are not interchangeable, so we confirm from the label before recommending a replacement.
